Camping on San Juan Island - July 2005
For the 4th of July this year we decided to go camping for the first time as a family.
We bought a tent at Big 5 - a 6-person Coleman. Several of our neighbor had this trip planned months ago,
so Becky, Sonja and I were last minute additions to the trip.
The Maziak's, Oh's and the Schulze's all went. I also met Vivian and Alex Oh's friends Chris and Charlotte Smith
and their three kids - Scout, Hunter and CJ.
We left Sammamish damn early on Saturday the 2nd. At just 4 AM we rolled out of the driveway, already about 15 minutes
behind the Schulze's (how do they get three kids ready that fast?). The goal was to make the first
ferry from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. Goal accomplished.
After seeing the Schulze's premium camp site (large and beautiful), we decided to share their campsite, since
our site rather sucked in comparision. Our 6 person tent was dwarfed by the Schulze's 9-person
Villa By the Lake. I've seen studio's in Manhattan that were smaller.
Lakedale Resort is just 5 minutes from Friday Harbor. A very pristine spot for camping. Friday Harbor and
Roche Harbor are two quaint little towns that should be on everyone's Must-Visit spots in the Pacific Northwest.
Stefan and I even caught about 20 fish total. We only kept two, but it was a blast catching Bass and Trouts - one
after the other.
Definitely a fun weekend for adults and kids. It was sunny (as my red face proves) and warm.
I look forward to going back there again!
