Camping 2006

Just like the 4th of July Holiday last year, we decided to go camping again. Same place in fact. The major difference this year, it was just the three of us. No neighbors. We also stayed for 4 days (3 nights) this time. One has to be comfortable, so I added a queen-size inflatable mattress to the mattresses we used last year. Almost like being at home. The weather was perfect. Not a cloud in the sky. The lake by the campsite, however, was cold. Sonja - who is starting to swim now - didn' seem to mind. The campsite is near Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. This is one of the many islands that make up the San Juan Islands in the middle of the Puget Sound. It is about 60 miles north of Seattle. It is an extremely beautiful area, somewhat reminiscent of coastal Maine. But Maine can't match the snow capped peaks of the Olympic Mountains and the majestic peaks of the Cascades. The atmosphere is eclectic. There is just an interesting mix of people and crafts. There is also a lot of wealthy folks who have summer homes dotting these wonderous islands.
